This past month in Guatemala has been such a sweet time of ministry!! The first two weeks looked a little different than expected as my team participated in “Ask the Lord”. I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, but wow was it such a blessing! We had the opportunity to ask the Lord what he sees for the community, to pray over the community building by building and home by home and got to know the kids we would be working with. It was so sweet to fall in love with the people and community before knowing a ton about their stories and backgrounds and just getting to listen to the Holy Spirit!

Now that our hosts are out of quarantine, we have been able to step into such a beautiful routine of ministry! One of the things we do as a team is homework help in the mornings. During this time, I get to spend lots of time with David.

David is one of the first kids I talked to once moving to the community. He came by one afternoon when we were working in the park and helped me pull weeds. I saw him frequently the next two weeks, but it is during homework help that I have really gotten to experience his heart, desire to be loved and determination to learn. I know that he has absolutely loved us being here loving on him and encouraging him in his studies, but watching him has touched me just as much as we have him. The Lord has just been speaking to me a lot lately about how His love for us has no correlation to what or how much we produce. When I’m with David I just feel how much the Lord loves him and is so proud of him. He may be grades behind and doesn’t have the support system at home he needs to catch up, but he is showing up and trying. I am just reminded of the value and weight that showing up each day and giving our best holds.

Thank you Lord for the sweet and freeing truth that you love us exactly where we are, that you are proud of us when we show up and that you look down on us with a big proud smile because we are your precious creation. Thank you Lord that you love all your people from all parts of the world, thank you for sweet kids like David and that you call him your son. Lord, thank you for the gift of education, family support and the resources you have blessed me with- I pray Lord that you would continue to humble my heart and open my eyes I continue this journey.

Prayers for David: I believe in Jesus name that he is going to do big things when he grows up. Thank you Lord for his spirit of never giving up, I pray that he would not stop seeking and giving love, and that he would fervently chase after the you and all that you have to offer David in the years to come.

  4. Kennedy,
Your heart for the Lord and the work he is doing in you inspires me beyond belief! Reading your post takes me back to the time we spent together in Nicaragua. I was a witness to how He was using you to reach the unreached! Who would have known then, that God was preparing you to do what you are now! I love you!

    Blessings!
